Meet Catherine Prince, Federal Programs Consultant in Library Development
Catherine manages the LSTA grant program
Over the next year we’re going to be highlighting Library Development staff, their areas of expertise, and how they can help your library. We’re getting started by featuring Catherine Prince, our Federal Programs Consultant.
Areas of expertise
As the Federal Programs Consultant, I manage our state’s Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants and am privileged to work with library staff across the state to help them fulfill the needs of their communities. I coordinate the development and creation of competitive grant opportunities, provide on-going technical assistance, monitor active awards, and collect final reporting. I facilitate meetings between the LSTA Advisory Committee, which is made up of 9 library staff members from around the state. In this position I serve as a standing member on the NC Digital Heritage Center Advisory Board. Nationally, I serve as a mentor to other LSTA Coordinators.

More about Catherine
I am a native North Carolinian and grew up in Durham. I attended Appalachian State University, graduating with a bachelor’s in Geology. After working in the Health Insurance industry, I attended the University of North Carolina Greensboro and graduated with a Master’s of Library and Information Science. Prior to my current role, I started at the State Library as the NC Cardinal Help Desk Technician, later being promoted to the Systems Librarian. I’m problem-solver at work and home which can run the gamut of solving budgetary issues to replacing a head gasket. At conferences, I am the librarian who knits in the audience and normally end up sharing patterns with at least one other librarian.
Fun Facts
I am an amateur potter and take classes every week. I have my own kiln, that I can fire small items in. I force my pottery (and other crafts!) on my coworkers.
I am terrible at closing browser tabs and the large number of open tabs causes concern and anxiety for others.
In 2011 I donated peripheral blood stem cells for a bone marrow transplant to a leukemia patient, who I ended up meeting in 2014 after he was in remission.
